Bio

Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and in honour of Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds.
The castle was intended as a home for the king, until he died in 1886. It was open to the public shortly after his death. Since then more than 61 million people have visited Neuschwanstein Castle.

Allure/Crenelations: There are crenelations but along with the machicolations they are purely decorative.

Moat: The castle does not have a moat or any sort of water surrounding it.
Enceinte: Although it does have a section with walls, it does not contain defensive walls or towers.
Curtain Walls: Neuschwanstein Castle does not have walls surrounding it, although it does have a wall on one side of the gatehouse.

Fortified Towers: On the corners of the walls connected to the gatehouse there are two towers, but neither contain defensive characteristics, and are purely decorative. There are also some larger towers as part of the main structure which have slightly better defensive capabilities.

Plinth: At the base of the structure there are steeply sloped walls.
Gatehouse: There is a large gatehouse with a sturdy gate and a wall along one side.
Hoardings: The castle does not have any hoardings.
Machicolations: There are machicolations on the towers but they are purely decorative.
High Ground/Defensive Position: The strongest defensive advantage for this castle is the fact that it is built on a mountaintop.

The castle is very pretty, with a clear design focus on being a "fairy tale" castle. Along with being beautiful, it also retains some amount of practicality as a castle. The bronze statues on the corners of the roof, and the window columns add nice character to the building. It also has a sick wizard tower, and another elegant tower for keeping lovely princesses. The interior of the castle fulfills the term "fit for a king", filled with extravagant furnishings and frescoes.
